Things to do in Athens Texas

Family? Baseball Tournament? New Job? Team Roping?  Fishing Tournament?  Retirement? College?  Who knows what brings you to Athens, but now that you’re here don’t sit in your hotel room and watch in-room movies.  Get out and DO something!

You’ve probably noticed – it’s beautiful around here.  Lush, rolling hills unfold into expansive ranches and forests. You can’t go a mile or two without almost tripping into a stock pond or lake.  Mother Nature has been good to Athens. What she didn’t provide on her own, local businesses and organizations have gifted.  Walk along a tree-covered path in the forests of the East Texas Arboretum. Learn how to bait a hook and then catch “a big one” at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. “Up” for a challenge? Try the ziplines at New York, Texas Zipline Adventure.

Everything in Athens is nearby. Put on your sneakers and take a walk through town.  Along the way, you’ll discover eclectic galleries and shops.  Needing a gift for that special someone?  Gift registries at several stores have taken the guesswork out of your search in many cases.  If you’d rather experience the thrill of the hunt, consider visiting one of our used bookstores where your next adventure is waiting to be discovered.

Perhaps you’ve planned to spend your day at a barrel race at the Henderson County Fair Park? Or participating in a race at the Cain Center?  No worries!  When you get a break, spend it relaxing with friends at one of our many eateries.  Or, check out the latest releases on the big screen of Athens Cinema 4.
