The Department of Tourism is the promotional ‘leg’ of the City of Athens. We’re here to provide you with the right information and assistance to make your visit to Athens the best it can be – whether you’re visiting for pleasure or for business.
During your visit to Athens, stop in to see at us our new location, inside the Athens Partnership Center, to receive your personal welcome! The Athens Partnership Center is convenient to out-of-town guests and backyard tourists alike. Visitors will find a wealth of information about things to do and see, places to stay, restaurants and more! Local experts are on hand to make recommendations and guide you to your destination.
Because Athens provides a great location from which to begin a “spokes” tour, visitors can also pick up information about other attractions in the area. The City of Athens Department of Tourism is a proud member of the Texas Lakes Trail Region and Texas Forest Trail Region.
The Department of Tourism website at http://www.athenstx.org enjoys thousands of visits each month. The website lists restaurants, attractions and other sites of interest in the greater Athens area.
The website includes only hotels located in the city limits of Athens, because the major source of our funding is hotel/motel occupancy tax, collected by these hotels.
If you have any questions about listing your business on our website, please contact the webmaster at tourism@athenstexas.us.
The online calendar of events is the most visited page on the Department of Tourism website. Local organizations are encouraged to submit their upcoming events for posting consideration. If prefered, event information may be emailed to the webmaster at tourism@athenstexas.us We do not accept event information over the telephone, nor do we guarantee inclusion of any event. Events for consideration in the online calendar of events must be submitted to us no later than four full weeks prior to the event.
Entries from the online calendar of events are also submitted to other events calendars around the state. Here are the deadline dates for possible inclusion:
